EFAs 2026: A Reflection of European Cinema

The 38th European Film Awards will take place this Saturday in Berlin. The date change from December aims to better integrate the awards into the international awards season. Although often overlooked in comparison to the Oscars, the EFAs highlight the value and artistic boldness of European films. This year's American awards season already appears to have clear favorites. The list of nominees this year includes a more diverse selection of films, such as the impressive animated horror film 'Dog of God' and the adaptation of Amélie Nothomb's novel, 'Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes'. These films highlight the need for better distribution of European productions. Among the favorites for Best European Film are the poignant drama 'Sentimental Value', the post-apocalyptic odyssey 'Sirāt', and the politically charged thriller 'It Was Just An Accident'.
