EU and African Union Strengthen Cooperation in Space Sector

The 2nd EU-African Union Space Dialogue concluded today, with high-level representatives from Europe and Africa discussing ways to strengthen cooperation in the space sector. The event, co-organized by EU and AU Commissioners, confirms the strategic importance of the EU-AU partnership in the space sector. During the dialogue, key areas of cooperation were discussed, including Earth observation, satellite navigation, space sciences, and applications supporting actions for climate, disaster management, and digital transition. Emphasis was placed on strengthening capabilities through education, training, and knowledge exchange, with the aim of developing strong space ecosystems in Africa. The central outcome of the Dialogue was a renewed commitment to deepen EU-AU cooperation through concrete steps, such as strengthening institutional partnerships, promoting joint research and innovation initiatives, data sharing, and greater private sector involvement. Space cooperation will be aligned with broader policy objectives, such as the green transition and the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants agreed that the EU-AU partnership for space is strategic and future-oriented, based on a shared vision for inclusive development and technological progress. The meeting highlighted the value of space services in addressing global challenges, such as climate monitoring and food security.
