Education Minister Responds to Evaluation Criteria Vote Delay – Concerns over School Support

The Ministry of Education responded swiftly to the postponement of the vote on teacher evaluation criteria by the Parliament, sending a letter to the Education Committee. The delay was decided after protests and proposed by DISY, aiming to provide time for discussion and address concerns raised, particularly by movements within POED. The Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, emphasized in her letter that the legislation already includes measures to support schools and teachers, such as the creation of new positions, the reduction of teaching hours, and the strengthening of the duties of principals. Specifically, she mentioned the creation of 55 new inspector positions, 540 senior educator positions, the reduction of teaching hours for new teachers and mentors, as well as the reduction of teaching hours for principals and assistant principals. The Minister also expressed the Ministry's willingness to meet other demands of teacher organizations.
