An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 struck near Catania, Sicily, at 07:05 local time. According to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the focal depth was 3.8 kilometers. The tremor was felt in Catania, where many residents evacuated to the streets, as well as in the wider area of Mount Etna, Messina, and Syracuse. As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or significant material damage. The earthquake was recorded by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which posted an update on social media. The area is being closely monitored for potential aftershocks.
