e-Basket: Promises Left on the Shelf

On the occasion of World Consumer Day, the Consumer Protection Service emphasizes the importance of safety, transparency and fair treatment. However, transparency in pricing, especially for fresh meat, appears to be lacking. The inclusion of fresh meat in the e-basket is considered imperative due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and the potential price increases that will be caused by animal losses and production restrictions. While the prices of standardized products are monitored, supermarkets have room to maintain high profits on fresh meat. The Consumer Protection Service is called upon to act immediately to include basic meat items in the e-basket and prevent further price increases before Easter.
