Dust Levels High: Public and Employers Advised

High dust concentrations were observed in the atmosphere today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, according to measurements from the Ground Stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection. Due to the small particles contained in dust, it may have negative health effects. Therefore, the public, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and patients, are advised to avoid going out in open spaces until the phenomenon subsides. Employers are obliged, based on Decree 410/2022, to assess the risks to employees in outdoor areas and to take the necessary protective measures, either organizational or technical. These workers should use appropriate personal protective equipment. According to the latest measurements at 08:00, dust concentrations are elevated in various areas. "Dust" is defined as inhalable particles with a diameter of less than 10 μm (PM10). The limit value for the average daily concentration is 50 μg/m3. For more information and immediate updates on dust levels, citizens can visit the website of the Department of Labour Inspection or use the "Air Quality Cyprus" mobile application.
