Dromolaxia: Extension of Disinfection Tanks to 9 Meters for Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, is taking measures to address the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the area. These include increasing the length of the disinfection tanks to 9 meters, installing informative signs in livestock areas, and providing psychological support to farmers. The Municipality is in constant communication with the Department of Agriculture and is awaiting information on the start of vaccinations, which are expected to begin soon. Specifically, disinfection tanks have been constructed or upgraded in various livestock areas (Dromolaxia A', Dromolaxia B', Softades, Tersefanou), and access roads have been closed to restrict movement. The Municipality has also informed farmers about biosecurity measures and has ensured their psychological support through the Mental Health Services of the OKYPY. Municipal Secretary Kyriakos Sotiriou emphasized that the information from the Department of Agriculture is that veterinarians will inform farmers about the start of vaccinations. The Municipality is closely monitoring developments and is prepared to implement the necessary measures. Additionally, it was reported that the death of a 73-year-old farmer in the Dromolaxia area was due to cardiac arrest, possibly due to the stress caused by the situation. The spraying is carried out by state services and the drugs meet EU safety standards.
