Discussion on Cyprus and Regional Issues Between Rubio – Gerapetritis

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met in Washington and discussed issues such as Cyprus, transatlantic relations, the situation in the Middle East and irregular migration. The meeting, which lasted longer than expected, took place in a positive atmosphere, with Greece being recognized as a reliable partner and a bridge between the US and Europe. Regional issues such as Iran, the situation in Gaza and developments in Africa were also discussed, as well as potential Greek contributions to humanitarian initiatives. The Greece-Turkey High Council for Cooperation was also mentioned. Rubio expressed his desire to visit Athens, without a date being finalized for the next US-Greece Strategic Dialogue. A State Department announcement emphasized the two countries' commitment to further strengthen their strategic partnership, with a focus on energy, trade relations, European defense, regional security, and tackling irregular migration.
