Deputy Minister of Tourism: Excellent Initial Messages for 2026 Bookings

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis stated that the initial messages for 2026 bookings are extremely encouraging. He emphasized that the main challenge is to ensure the satisfaction of visitors who choose Cyprus for their holidays. Mr. Koumis held a meeting with stakeholders from the province of Famagusta to discuss the challenges and actions related to the tourism sector of the area, in Ayia Napa. The meeting focused on upgrading Cyprus's tourist destinations, with an emphasis on Ayia Napa and Protaras. The advantages and disadvantages of the destinations, as well as specific threats such as climate change, were discussed. The Deputy Minister of Tourism stressed the need for better coordination between local authorities and the tourism industry to upgrade the tourism product. More than 30 issues were recorded for discussion, highlighting the dynamism of the tourism sector and the need for continuous adaptation to new trends and challenges. Mr. Koumis expressed his satisfaction with the results of previous years and pledged to continue efforts to maintain Cyprus's competitiveness on the tourism map. It was noted that local authorities have already implemented significant upgrade projects, such as tree planting, projects connecting with history, and the placement of sculptures. The Deputy Minister of Tourism assured that the Deputy Ministry will continue to coordinate efforts with stakeholders of tourist destinations for further improvement of the visitor experience.
