Denmark to Hold Security Talks in the Arctic, Seeks Respect for Territorial Integrity

Denmark will continue security talks in the Arctic with NATO, but on the condition that its territorial integrity is respected. This was stated by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen following Donald Trump's withdrawal of the threat of tariffs on European countries regarding Greenland. Trump had proposed starting 'immediate negotiations' for the US to acquire Greenland, but ruled out the use of force. Denmark has informed NATO of its position and has received assurances that discussions will not touch on the country's national sovereignty. The discussion focuses on the development of the 'Golden Dome' anti-missile shield and the extraction of minerals in Greenland, with the aim of limiting the ambitions of Russia and China in the region. Frederiksen stressed the importance of cooperation with NATO to strengthen security in the Arctic, but reiterated the need to respect Danish sovereignty. Denmark wants a constructive dialogue to address the challenges in the region, including the development of the 'Golden Dome'. Denmark has maintained close dialogue with the Greenlandic government throughout the discussion, ensuring that its interests are taken into account. Frederiksen has spoken regularly with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on the matter.
