DEM presents candidates and political lines, distances itself from ELAM

The Democratic National Movement (DEM) presented its first group of candidates and ideological lines at a press conference. The party's president, Andreas Themistocleous, distanced DEM from ELAM, citing ideological differences and operational discrepancies, emphasizing its commitment to democratic principles. Mr. Themistocleous criticized ELAM for referencing the "Klerides school of thought," characterizing the act as outdated. The presentation announced the members of DEM's top leadership, including vice-presidents Nikos Charalambous, Prokopis Prokopiou, Marios Mavrikios, general secretary Marios Thrasyvoulou, as well as other officials. In addition, three candidates from the “Dikaiosi” Political Movement were presented as ad-hoc candidates. Spokespersons for the press, students, and pupils were appointed. Andreas Themistocleous emphasized that DEM is registered as a party since May 2025 and that the movement is democratic, free, and open to public participation. He acknowledged the difficulties the party will face, but reiterated its unwavering commitment to its goals. Mr. Themistocleous stressed that Cyprus is an integral part of the Greek nation, repeating historical references. He rejected the idea that politics is merely theatre or public relations, emphasizing that the goal is to solve the problems of the people. No specific positions on the Cyprus issue were mentioned during the presentation.
