Deadly Earthquake Strikes Mexico During President's Press Briefing

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Mexico yesterday, Friday, causing at least two deaths and damage to homes near the epicenter. The earthquake, which occurred at 07:58 (local time), caused panic and prompted residents to evacuate their homes. President Claudia Sheinbaum interrupted her daily press briefing during the quake. The epicenter was located near San Marcos, in the state of Guerrero. One person died in Mexico City from an accident, while a woman lost her life in San Marcos due to the collapse of her home. Approximately fifty homes were destroyed in San Marcos, with most sustaining cracks. 546 aftershocks were recorded, but they were weak. No tsunami warning was issued.
