Deadlock Over New Police Schedule – Fytiris Warns of Disciplinary Action, Unions Threaten Protests

A complete deadlock exists between Interior Minister Kostas Fytiris and the police unions regarding the new work schedule for 1,000 police officers. Mr. Fytiris warned of disciplinary measures against those who do not comply, while the unions threaten legal action and protests, including appealing to the European Police Union. The unions protest the manner in which the new schedule was imposed, while the Minister assures that it is not a political decision, but an order from the Chief of Police. The disagreement concerns the process and not the substance of the schedule.
