Damianou: Situation After US Intervention in Venezuela is 'Very Dangerous but Precarious'

AKEL MP Aristos Damianou expressed concern over the situation following the US intervention in Venezuela, describing it as "very dangerous, but precarious." He highlighted the increasing cynicism in international decision-making, where powerful nations appear to choose leaders who serve their interests, disregarding legality. Damianou emphasized that the lack of respect for legality by international actors is worrying, as it echoes previous coups, such as the overthrow of Makarios in 1974. He underlined that history shows that such interventions can have serious consequences, especially for small countries like Cyprus, which are more vulnerable to external pressures and changes in the international arena. The MP warned that the absence of legitimacy in international relations creates an unstable and dangerous environment, where Cyprus could become a target for similar moves.
