Ένα βρετανικό πυρηνοκίνητο υποβρύχιο, εξοπλισμένο με πυραύλους Tomahawk, έχει λάβει θέση στην Αραβική Θάλασσα αναμένοντας εντολή από το Λονδίνο προκειμένου να εξαπολύσει επιθέσεις μεγάλης εμβέλειας σε περίπτωση που κλιμακωθεί περαιτέρω η σύγκρουση στη Μέση Ανατολή, όπως μεταδίδει η εφημερίδα Daily Mail.
Το πρακτορείο ειδήσεων Reuters υπογραμμίζει πως δεν είναι σε θέση να επαληθεύσει την πληροφορία από ανεξάρτητες πηγές, ενώ το βρετανικό υπουργείο Άμυνας δεν έχει επιβεβαιώσει όσα αναφέρει το δημοσίευμα.
Σύμφωνα με την Daily Mail, το υποβρύχιο HMS Anson – εξοπλισμένο με πυραύλους Tomahawk Block IV και τορπίλες Spearfish – αναχώρησε προ ημερών από το Περθ της Αυστραλίας και διένυσε περίπου 5.500 μίλια (8.850 χλμ) προκειμένου να φθάσει στην Αραβική Θάλασσα.
Το πυρηνοκίνητο υποβρύχιο αναδύεται κατά διαστήματα προκειμένου να επικοινωνήσει με το στρατηγείο των βρετανικών ενόπλων δυνάμεων στο Νόρθγουντ, αναφέρει η Daily Mail, επισημαίνοντας πως ενδεχόμενη εντολή επίθεσης θα πρέπει να εγκριθεί από τον πρωθυπουργό Κιρ Στάρμερ.
