Cyta's 2026 Budget Approved by Parliament

The plenary session of the Parliament approved Cyta's budget for 2026, totaling €597.9 million, with 33 votes in favor. An amendment by DISY-Cooperative Democratic Forces MP Alekos Tryfonidis was also adopted, providing for the registration of the first 17 positions of senior private law officials at Cyta, with the necessary approval of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance. The budget forecasts revenues of €450,573,650, mainly from services and products. Mr. Tryfonidis congratulated the management and staff of Cyta for the results and the investment plan, but expressed concern about the recruitment of 50 directors and department heads, considering it an indirect privatization. A second amendment regarding the commitment of funds for remuneration was not approved. AKEL MP Andreas Kavkalias stressed the importance of protecting the public character of Cyta and strengthening its position for the benefit of the public interest. His party voted in favor of Mr. Tryfonidis' amendment for control purposes. It is worth noting that Cyta remained outside privatization, offering benefits to the state, after a long effort.
