Cyta Seeks Equal Framework for Energy Sector Entry

Cyta is seeking to modernize its institutional framework to enable it to operate on an equal footing in the energy market, arguing that this will benefit consumers and the economy. The organization notes that technology and energy are converging at the European level, while the legislation governing it remains outdated. It aims to gain the same institutional flexibility as private providers and offer green energy from Renewable Energy Sources to consumers who do not have access to photovoltaic systems. Cyta plans to enter into agreements with RES producers and consider self-generation with energy storage, but most of the energy will come from third parties. It is committed to operating in accordance with the provisions of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) and within the competitive market. Furthermore, the creation of combined packages including energy, telecommunications services, and technology solutions is being considered, aiming to reduce costs and environmental impact. This strategy is supported by the organization's trade unions. Cyta warns that the rejection of the modernization bill will negatively affect its competitiveness. The organization believes that entry into the energy market is essential for its sustainability and the provision of better services to citizens.
