CYS Priorities for 2026: Standardization, Circular Economy, and Climate Neutrality

The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) has published its Standardisation Programme for 2026, outlining priorities in key areas such as the economy, industry, energy, environment, and sustainable development. A central focus is the implementation of the new European Regulation CPR 2024/3110 for construction products and the revision of related standards. Particular emphasis is placed on construction products and structures, with technical committees focusing on issues arising from the new regulation. The National Committee CYS/TC 06 – Concrete will consider updating the national standard CYS 300:2019 to align with the new EN 206-1, while CYS/TC 14 – Precast Concrete Products will proceed with the approval of EN 1916:2002. In the plastics sector, the priority is to ensure the suitability of materials in contact with drinking water, in anticipation of new European hygiene requirements. In addition, the revision of the CYS 106:2010 standard for LDPE pipes will be evaluated, and a certification scheme for circular plastic products will be created. Significant work is also expected in the areas of energy, hydrocarbons, and climate neutrality. CYS/TC 13 – Thermal Solar Systems will continue to represent Cyprus in European technical bodies, while CYS/TC 27 – Climate Neutrality and CYS/TC 29 – Climate Neutral Communities will work on drafting new national technical specifications and promoting sustainable policies.
