Cyprus Unions Push for Minimum Wage Revision, Seek Presidential Meeting

Trade unions in Cyprus are continuing their pressure for a revision of the minimum wage, considering the government's decisions insufficient. Requests for a meeting with the President of the Republic and a memorandum outlining their positions on four key labor issues, including the minimum wage, are expected to be sent this week. The employer side also expresses its dissatisfaction with the level of the minimum wage, considering it high and warning of a possible reaction in the event of further increases. Unions insist that changes to the minimum wage are still possible, even after the issuance of the decree, and will push to have their demands met. Other issues to be discussed include the employment of foreign workers, the extension of collective agreements, and the linking of bids for public works to the implementation of labor contracts.
