Cyprus Tourism Shows Signs of Recovery After Geopolitical Pressures

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, stated that there is a trend of recovery in tourism bookings in Cyprus, after the slowdown caused by geopolitical developments. The government moved quickly to protect the safety and image of Cyprus as a safe destination, emphasizing that the island is far from the war and actively promotes the message of safety. Cyprus's presence at the ITB tourism exhibition in Berlin was crucial to convey this message to strategic partners, where concern but also confidence were recorded. The government has taken measures to support employment in the hotel sector and air connectivity, while the Deputy Ministry has intensified promotion and advertising efforts. The new President of PASYDIXE, Nikolas Aristou, prioritized quality upgrading, investment in human capital, strengthening cooperation, and promoting sustainability. The former President of the Association, Marios Ellinas, referred to the impact of geopolitical instability and called on hotels to operate normally to send a message of stability. There is already an improvement in the negative balance between cancellations and new bookings. The Secretary-General of KEVE, Philokypros Rousounidis, emphasized the need for collective, strategic and methodical action to address the challenges, while Deputy Minister Koumis expressed optimism that this period can be overcome with good results.
