Cyprus to Implement Gender-Responsive Budgeting

Published February 12, 2026, 12:32

Cyprus is moving forward with the implementation of gender-responsive budgeting across the public sector, supported by new legislation and specialized training. The 'Gender Mainstreaming Act of 2025' has already been approved by the Council of Ministers and submitted to Parliament, providing for the integration of gender equality into policy-making and the state budget. The legislation will require the collection of gender-disaggregated data and gender impact assessments. The government has already incorporated the gender dimension into tax reform proposals, such as relief measures for parents and single-parent families, aiming to encourage women's participation in the labor market and improve their standard of living. The upcoming pension reform will also aim to reduce the pension gap between genders.
