Cyprus Teachers' Union Expresses Discontent Over New Evaluation System Workshops

The Cyprus Primary Teachers' Union (POED) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Education's announcement regarding the commencement of training workshops on the new teacher evaluation system, without prior consultation. The union is calling on teachers not to participate in these meetings until a meeting is held with the Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, to discuss the issues arising. POED argues that the Ministry's hasty decisions complicate the daily lives of schools and undermine the quality of the educational process. It points out that public schools already face numerous challenges and do not need additional difficulties. The Ministry of Education has stated that there is significant interest from teachers in participating in the workshops and that the issue of POED's disagreement will be discussed within the framework of the meetings and ongoing communication with the union. POED commits to informing its members of any new developments in the matter and reiterates the need for consultation and cooperation with the Ministry of Education for the best possible management of changes in the education system.
