Cyprus Talks Stall as Turkish Cypriot Side Insists on New Prerequisites

The Cyprus negotiations appear to be at an impasse, as the Turkish Cypriot side insists on new prerequisites, such as political equality and recognition of sovereign equality. The UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, has proposed the four proposals of Tufan Erhurman as a basis for discussion, which has provoked a reaction from the Greek Cypriot side. However, the Greek Cypriot side states that it is ready to respond and reiterate its own proposals, remaining focused on resolving the issue through a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality, as defined by UN Security Council resolutions. At the same time, the US appears to be maintaining influence on the situation, with Donald Trump stating that he will 'dictate' decisions in the country until further notice.
