Cyprus Remains a Safe Destination, Ministers Assure at Climate Conference

The Ministers of Transport and Energy, Alexis Vafeades and Michalis Damianou, assured that Cyprus remains a safe destination during the opening of the international conference «Climate Neutral Blue Cities by 2030» in Limassol. They emphasized that life in Cyprus continues normally despite the unstable situation in the region and that scheduled events will proceed as planned. Alexis Vafeades called on European participants to become ambassadors for Cyprus, while referring to the European initiative for climate-neutral and smart cities, highlighting the role of coastal cities in tackling climate change. He pointed out that the high dependence on private cars in Limassol leads to traffic congestion and high greenhouse gas emissions, making the promotion of sustainable mobility a top priority for the Ministry. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan is a key tool in this direction. The Minister of Transport stressed the need for coordinated action, adequate resources and strong cooperation between all levels of government, expressing his belief that Limassol has the potential to become a model for green transition in the Mediterranean, due to its dynamic character and international orientation.
