Cyprus: Proposal for Restarting Negotiations from Crans Montana

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, received today the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguín. During the meeting, President Christodoulides presented his approach to restarting negotiations, based on the achievements of previous processes. According to the Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the President's proposal will be discussed tomorrow in a joint meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, in the presence of Ms. Holguín. President Christodoulides insists that the resumption of negotiations should take place from the point where they were interrupted in Crans Montana, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council. The Cypriot side believes that genuine political will is essential for progress and that tomorrow's meeting is an opportunity to demonstrate this will. President Christodoulides will present his proposal in a constructive manner, while reiterating his positions on points that have already been discussed. The meeting takes place at a time of increased effort to find a solution to the Cyprus issue, with the involvement of the UN and other international actors. Cyprus is seeking a fair and sustainable solution, based on the resolutions of the Security Council and the principles of international law.
