Cyprus Presidency Outlines Four Key Defense Priorities to European Parliament

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to the Security and Defence (SEDE) Committee of the European Parliament. The four main pillars are support for Ukraine, strengthening the European defense industry through the EDIP program, investing in maritime security, and enhancing readiness for humanitarian operations. Mr. Palmas emphasized the importance of the EU's strategic autonomy and outward orientation, as well as the transition from plans to real capabilities, promoting the European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the SAFE initiative. The Cypriot Presidency will also host defense initiatives in cooperation with the European Defence Agency (EDA).
