Cyprus Parliamentarians Issue Resolution Against Mercosur Agreement

A joint resolution against the Mercosur agreement was adopted by parties in the Cypriot Parliament, calling on the European Commission and the EU Council to refrain from temporarily implementing the agreement before a decision by the European Court of Justice. The resolution, submitted by AKEL, EDEK, the Citizens' Movement, and MPs Christos Orphanides and Pavlos Mylonas, expresses concerns about the agreement's potentially devastating consequences for the agricultural sector of the EU and Cyprus, as well as risks to consumer health due to lower safety standards. The signatories believe the agreement serves large industrial interests and was imposed without consultation with farmers and citizens.
