The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, emphasized the importance of freedom, democracy, and national dignity as fundamental values during a special parliamentary session commemorating the anniversaries of March 25th and April 1st. Ms. Demetriou stated that the struggles of 1821 inspired Cypriots to claim their rights, while April 1st symbolizes the desire for self-determination and freedom. She highlighted the need to safeguard democracy, statehood, and human rights, as well as the responsibility of current generations to honor the sacrifices of their predecessors. The plenary session of the Parliament also observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes and fighters. The President's speech focused on the need for unity and composure in addressing current challenges, drawing lessons from the nation's historical journey.
