Cyprus Olympic Committee Cuts Vasilopita for 2026 – Message of Unity and Olympic Values

The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) held its traditional Vasilopita cutting ceremony for 2026, at the OPAP 'Eu Agonizesthe' hall of the Olympic House. The event was blessed by the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos and Oreini and attended by representatives of the Sports Federations. COC President Giorgos Chrysostomou emphasized the importance of the Olympic House as a center for cooperation and support for Cypriot sport, noting that it hosted over 120 institutional events in 2025. Mr. Chrysostomou stressed that the COC's priority is not winning medals, but participation, providing equal opportunities for young athletes, and cultivating Olympic values. He also referred to athlete support programs through Olympic Solidarity and scholarships, as well as close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the COC's sponsors. Fair Play Ambassador Andros Karapatakis highlighted the importance of 'fair play' as a way of life, emphasizing that success in sports is measured not only by achievements but also by ethics, respect, and dignity. The event aimed to send a message of unity and highlight the importance of cooperation for promoting sport in Cyprus. The Vasilopita cutting is a significant annual event for the COC, as it marks the start of the new year and the renewal of goals and efforts for the development of sport in Cyprus. This event is an opportunity to honor the people who work daily for sport and to strengthen the spirit of cooperation between stakeholders.
