Cyprus MP Faces Allegations of Assault, Removed from Party Ballot

A Member of Parliament (MP) from the Democratic Rally (DISY) party in Limassol is facing allegations of assault and causing bodily harm to a woman abroad during New Year's celebrations. The case has been referred to the Attorney General's Office for review, and a request for the lifting of the MP's immunity may be submitted to the Supreme Court. DISY President Annita Dimitriou announced that the MP has been removed from the party's ballot and is calling for a voluntary waiver of immunity, emphasizing the party's zero tolerance for violence, especially against women. MP Nikos Sykas vehemently denies the allegations and expresses regret over the leak of the case to the media, while stating his respect for the investigation process and readiness to provide his account of the events. He reserves all his legal rights.
