Cyprus is Close, Not Far Away, Dendias Emphasizes

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited Cyprus and met with his Cypriot counterpart, Vassilis Palmas, to discuss the security situation in the region following the escalation of tensions in the Middle East. Mr. Dendias stated that Cyprus "is not far away, but close," referring to the deployment of Greek F-16 fighter jets and frigates to strengthen Cyprus's defense. Mr. Palmas expressed the government's gratitude for Greek assistance and emphasized that Greece is Cyprus's most important partner at all levels. During the meeting, Mr. Palmas briefed Mr. Dendias on the security situation in Cyprus, including recent incidents involving unmanned aircraft near the British Akrotiri Bases. He also reiterated Cyprus's position that it will not participate in any military operation but will continue to serve its humanitarian role and promote the peaceful resolution of disputes. Mr. Palmas stated that Cyprus relies on full respect for international law, strategic alliances, and the peaceful resolution of disputes for its defense and security. Cyprus remains committed to its humanitarian role and will continue to act responsibly for the safety of its citizens and the promotion of peace. The visit of Mr. Dendias and the deployment of Greek military forces to Cyprus demonstrate the close cooperation and strong bond between the two countries, as well as Greece's commitment to supporting the security and national sovereignty of Cyprus.
