Cyprus Intensifies Measures to Prevent Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced intensified measures to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease into Cyprus, following an outbreak in the occupied territories. The measures include 24-hour coverage of crossing points from the occupied areas, vehicle disinfection, intensified veterinary checks, and communication with the authorities of the British Bases, the Police and the Army. Additionally, guidelines will be provided to livestock farmers for the creation of disinfection areas, and communication will be established with Australia regarding the shipment of halloumi. A committee has also been formed with representatives from the Veterinary Services and animal care professionals for continuous monitoring of the situation. So far, no other country has announced restrictions on Cypriot trade.
