Cyprus Highlights Renewable Energy Initiatives at IRENA Assembly in Abu Dhabi

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, presented Cyprus's policies and actions to promote Renewable Energy Sources (RES) at the 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi. The Minister emphasized the role of RES in Cyprus's energy transition, considering the challenges the country faces due to its isolation as an electrical system. He also referred to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in the energy sector, such as strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of the energy system. During the Assembly, Mr. Damianou participated in discussions on the decarbonization of industry and the use of artificial intelligence in the energy sector, and held bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials from various countries.
