Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation: Immediate Return to Normalcy Needed to Avoid Economic Damage

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has stressed the need for an immediate return to normalcy in Cyprus following the crisis in the Middle East to avoid economic losses. OEB President Giorgos Pantelidis stated that the government assures Cyprus will not participate in military operations, but the country's proximity to the conflict zone and the drone incident at Akrotiri British Base prompted increased defense protection with the assistance of Greece. The importance of timely and reliable information for the public was emphasized to prevent panic, while it was reported that business activity continues as usual in all sectors, except for the temporary suspension of flights by some airlines. Hermes Airports announced that most airlines maintained their schedules and some have resumed flights to Larnaca and Paphos. The OEB calls on the government to consider preventative measures to absorb potential impacts from increases in fuel and raw materials, as well as targeted support for the tourism sector. The contribution of the media to the objective information of the public was acknowledged. Mr. Pantelidis expressed optimism for a full return to normalcy, emphasizing the importance of stability and security for the economy and society of Cyprus. The OEB is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to contribute to addressing any negative impacts.
