Cyprus Emphasizes Culture as a Cornerstone of the EU

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) of the European Parliament. She emphasized that culture is a fundamental pillar of the European edifice and not merely a supporting policy. The Cypriot Presidency focuses on culture as a bridge for dialogue and a common European identity, as well as a space for experiencing European values. Furthermore, she referred to the Compass for Culture, a coherent strategic framework that places culture at the heart of European policy, and the new AgoraEU program, which supports culture, the media, and civil society as essential infrastructures of European democracy.
