Cyprus: Education Ministry Proceeds with Teacher Evaluation System Amid Union Concerns

The Cyprus Ministry of Education is moving forward with the implementation of the new teacher evaluation system, despite objections from the teacher unions POED and OELMEK. These organizations have scheduled meetings to assess the provisions of the regulations passed by the Parliament and state their readiness to take dynamic measures if deemed necessary. POED is expected to meet on Thursday, while OELMEK will meet next week, following a meeting with the Director-General of the Ministry of Education. The Ministry has already sent letters to the three educational organizations (POED, OELMEK, OLTEK) requesting them to nominate representatives for the establishment of the Monitoring Committee, which will oversee the implementation of the new system. The committee will consist of representatives from the organizations, Ministry officials, and the Director of the Pedagogical Institute, with the Director-General of the Ministry as its chairman.
