Cyprus: Education Committee Investigates Serious Building Problems at Lakatamia Primary School

The House Education Committee conducted an on-site inspection of the 3rd Primary School of Lakatamia, following a request from the Parents' Association, to examine the serious building problems facing the school. The building, constructed in the mid-1980s, has not been renovated since. Parents reported problems with the multipurpose hall, the lack of an elevator for students with mobility difficulties, the need for general building maintenance, the poor condition of the fence, and moisture problems that cause illness in children. The President of the Education Committee pointed out the age of the building and the unsuitability of the event hall for gymnastics or other activities during lessons. He also mentioned that the school board will submit a request for the installation of an elevator. The President of the Parents' Association stated that they have been trying to achieve renovation work for three years, but have not received a satisfactory response. The renovation, which mainly includes work on the roof and insulation, is estimated to cost around €400,000.
