Cyprus Discusses Pension Reform, Minimum Wage, and Student Regulations

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, met with social partners in the first session of the Labour Advisory Board. Key discussion topics included pension system reform, the minimum wage, legislation regarding adequate wages, and a decree concerning third-country students. The Minister emphasized the importance of tripartite cooperation for maintaining labor peace and improving living standards. Regarding pension reform, Mr. Mousiouttas stated that it is a flagship initiative of the Ministry and the Government, and discussions will continue immediately with the aim of completing the legislation by 2026 and implementing it in 2027. The body was updated on the progress of the procedures. Concerning the minimum wage, information was provided on how the Technical Committee reached the final amount, which has already been in effect since January 1, 2026. The views of the social partners remained distinct. The Minister of Labour expressed confidence that the Labour Advisory Board would continue to operate smoothly, as it has for decades, promoting discussion and resolving labor issues.
