Cyprus Discusses New Public Benefit Scheme for Beneficiaries of Guaranteed Minimum Income

A meeting between representatives of the Pan-Cypriot Coordinating Council of Volunteering (PCCS) and the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Hadjistefanou Papaellina, took place on January 15th, focusing on the new Special Public Benefit Scheme for beneficiaries of the Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI). The scheme aims to gain professional experience through Social Intervention. The meeting discussed issues such as the Community Unpaid Work Program, state aid, regulations resulting from PCCS regulations, and the signing of the Collective Agreement for workers of the SCE/EKE. The Deputy Minister assured the support of the Deputy Ministry for the work of the PCCS. Furthermore, the International Year of Volunteers 2026 was mentioned, with the President of the PCCS emphasizing the importance of designating the Council as the National Contact Point. The Deputy Minister pledged to continue the established Dialogue with Volunteer Organizations/NGOs. The meeting confirmed the commitment to close cooperation between the PCCS and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, with the aim of implementing targeted social policy actions and strengthening the role of volunteering in Cypriot society.
