Cyprus Church Synod Considers Bishop Tychikos' Court Appeal as Disobedience

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus considers Bishop Tychikos' appeal to civil courts as an act of disobedience. Spokesperson for the Archbishopric, Christakis Eustathiou, stated that the Synod will convene in an emergency session tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss the matter and decide on its final outcome. Bishop Tychikos is appealing to the courts claiming the Metropolis of Paphos, challenging the decision of the Holy Synod and bypassing the advice of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which called on him to obey. The Church of Cyprus traditionally resolves its internal issues and there is no precedent of a civil court overturning a synodal decision. Bishop Tychikos has already expressed his intention not to attend tomorrow's Synod session.
