Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos participated in the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, where discussions focused on the European Security Strategy, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the Southern Neighbourhood. Mr. Kombos stressed the need for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy in the Middle East, while also highlighting the need for an enhanced role of the EU in the region and a coordinated approach to the Strait of Hormuz. He also expressed his concern about the situation in the West Bank and the need for support for Lebanon. Regarding the Southern Neighbourhood, the Foreign Minister proposed the Mediterranean Agreement as a framework for strengthening the EU's relations with the countries of the region. As for Ukraine, he underlined the importance of maintaining and strengthening support for the country, as well as reaching an agreement on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia and the €90 billion loan to Ukraine. A working lunch was held with the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during the Council, where common interests between the EU and India were discussed, with an emphasis on maritime transport security. Mr. Kombos also held bilateral meetings with his Czech counterpart, Petr Macinka, and with the Indian Foreign Minister.
