Cyprus Aims for Italy Relations on Par with France

Cyprus is aiming to develop relations with Italy that are equivalent to those it has with France. This emerged after the meeting of President Christodoulides with Italian Prime Minister Meloni in Rome. The signing of a strategic agreement, the common interest in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), and Italy's recognition of Cyprus's contribution to the EU were the main points of the meeting. Cyprus already has strategic agreements with the US, the UK, Israel, the UAE, Egypt, and France, and is in the final stages of an agreement with India as well. Italy is emerging as a significant power in Europe, making an agreement with Cyprus important. Nicosia is seeking a structured cooperation agenda with Italy, which will cover areas such as energy, defense, and culture, with the expectation of signing before or on the sidelines of the informal European Council in April.
