Cypriot Livestock Farmers to Protest at Presidential Palace

Cypriot livestock farmers are planning a protest march to the Presidential Palace on Saturday, expressing strong opposition to the culling of asymptomatic animals as part of measures to control foot-and-mouth disease. They are also protesting against sampling conducted on vaccinated animals, which they consider illegal. The farmers are demanding an immediate end to the horizontal culling of healthy animals, the cessation of disputed sampling, and clear answers regarding their compensation. They point out that sampling after 28 days from the second dose of the vaccine is invalid according to European protocols and denounce “double standards,” as vaccinations are being carried out in the occupied territories and the certification of dairies and farms continues. They also request the immediate announcement of compensation amounts and the possibility of examining samples from private laboratories. Despite the strong language, they commit to adhering to biosafety measures during the mobilization, using the slogan “Stop the killing of our animals” and calling on citizens to support the farmers.
