The Cypriot national handball team experienced a serious accident during their journey to Poland for the match against Estonia. The bus carrying the team overturned due to slippery conditions, resulting in injuries to two people. The team leader, Fytos Neofytou, and one player were taken to hospital with injuries, while the rest of the team members sustained scrapes and bruises. The accident occurred early in the morning, about two hours after departing from Tallinn airport. The driver lost control of the bus on a snowy stretch of road, making several maneuvers. Most of the players were asleep during the accident and were thrown around inside the bus. The team faced difficulties exiting the bus as the doors were jammed. They eventually managed to break the front window and escape, despite the very low temperatures (-20 degrees Celsius). Police and an ambulance arrived quickly at the scene and provided the necessary first aid. The match against Estonia has been postponed due to the accident. A delegation from the European Federation and the Cypriot Ambassador to Finland, who also covers Estonia, mobilized immediately to help the team. The team is planning to return to Cyprus after receiving the necessary medical care.
