Court justifies stricter penalties due to drug crime surge

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca, in its decision regarding a drug case, justified imposing stricter penalties due to the surge in similar crimes. Specifically, it imposed a 20-year prison sentence on an individual convicted of illegally possessing 15.06 kilograms of cocaine and 94.96 kilograms of cannabis. The drugs were found in packages that arrived in Cyprus from Greece through a courier company. The court stated that the severity of the crime and the repetition of such actions justify the imposition of the most severe possible penalty, namely a 20-year imprisonment for each charge, which will be consolidated. The case was handled by Public Prosecutor Antonis Antonίου, on behalf of the Attorney General of the Republic. This decision serves as a message regarding the strict tackling of organized crime and drug trafficking.
