Coordination and Preparedness of Cypriot Presidency EU Ahead of Trade Council at POE Conference

The Cypriot Presidency is coordinating with the EU ahead of the Council of Foreign Affairs (CFA) for Trade, which will take place on the sidelines of the 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, and will be attended by EU Commissioners. MC14 will bring together Ministers from 166 countries, with the aim of examining the challenges and opportunities in the multilateral trading system and reforming the WTO. Discussions are expected to focus on WTO reform, multilateral initiatives, and issues such as facilitating investment, e-commerce, climate and sustainability. The EU is seeking to reform the WTO with an emphasis on predictability, fairness and flexibility. The EU's priorities also include the incorporation of multilateral agreements into the WTO's legal framework and finding a solution to the moratorium on tariffs on electronic transmissions. Particular emphasis will be placed on development and sustainability, with the aim of strengthening the integration of developing countries into global trade.
