Congress Advances Bill on IMEC Role for Eastern Mediterranean - What it Means for Cyprus

The US House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee passed the “Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act,” which aims to promote the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) by strengthening cooperation with Eastern Mediterranean countries such as Greece and Cyprus. The bill focuses on supporting energy projects, such as the “Great Sea Interconnector” and the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnector, as well as bolstering existing cooperation frameworks like the 3+1 (Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the US) and the East Mediterranean Gas Forum. It is expected that the bill will be incorporated into a broader budget bill due to the upcoming midterm election year.
