Concerns Raised over Independence and Credibility of A. Paschalidis' Investigation by Alma

The Alma - Citizens for Cyprus Movement has expressed strong concerns regarding the independence and credibility of the investigation into a controversial video, following the appointment of criminal investigator Andreas Paschalidis. Alma argues that this appointment, amidst publications and revelations about Paschalidis' past, casts doubt on the impartiality of the investigation. The Movement accuses the Attorney General of “rushing” to announce a criminal investigation immediately after the Independent Authority Against Corruption announced a meeting regarding the video, thereby undermining the Authority's role, which is the sole competent body for the application of lobbying legislation. Alma emphasizes that responsibility for the situation lies not only with the President's associates but also with the President himself. It reiterates its demands, such as the transfer of the Social Support Agency to the State Scholarships Foundation and a full investigation of the scandal by the Anti-Corruption Authority. The Alma Movement also denounces a “coordinated effort” to defame the trade union movement and undermine the dignity of teachers, resulting in an increase in unsubstantiated allegations and disparaging behavior.
