Communication as a Pillar of Resilience in Europe of Uncertainty

Konstantinos Daltas, President of the Association of Advertising and Communication Cyprus (SDEK), analyzes the importance of communication for Europe's resilience in a period of geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency of the EU Council in 2026 is a significant opportunity for our country to contribute to the cohesion and resilience of the EU. The author emphasizes that Europe faces multiple challenges such as wars, the climate crisis and misinformation, and highlights the importance of peace, international law and European unity. The Cypriot Presidency should operate as a bridge between different approaches, with the aim of achieving a self-reliant and open Europe. The role of communication is crucial for building trust and acceptance of political decisions by citizens. In times of uncertainty, communication is not merely a “packaging” of politics, but a basic prerequisite for the functioning of democracy and ensuring social cohesion. SDEK recently organized a working lunch in Brussels, where the messages of the Cypriot Presidency and the importance of communication for promoting European values and goals were discussed. The author notes that the communication industry is in a period of transition, due to digital maturity and the complexity of new technologies.
