Commissioner Proposes Legal Protection for Guide Dog Access

The Commissioner for Administration and Protection of Human Rights, Maria Stilianou Lottidi, proposes the legislative protection of the right of people with disabilities to be accompanied by guide dogs in all public and private spaces, as well as on public transport. Her report was based on collecting opinions from involved parties and analyzing the existing legal framework. It was found that there are insufficient provisions for the entry of guide dogs into certain spaces, such as hotels and restaurants, and that policy varies from business to business. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism has received complaints about the prohibition of transporting guide dogs on buses, while the Ministry of Transport allows guide dogs to travel on public buses.
